This 1950 Raytheon was found near Houston.  It looks somewhat similar to the Zenith "porthole" sets of the time.  I kinda think it looks like an old front-loader washing machine!  The cabinet is in pretty decent shape.  It has a little wear to it, but is still presentable as is.

Here's the chassis out of the cabinet.  The picture tube is a metal/glass 16AP4 that tested good.  The entire cone of the tube is charged with high voltage (about 11,000 volts I think), so reaching your hand in there with the set running could really screw up your day!

Here's a shot of the underside after replacing the original capacitors.  There was plenty of room to work in the new parts.  Someone in the past made a few circuit changes... one of which is the 6AU6 tube at the left for the sound circuit.  Originally, a 6T8 was used for both the detector and AF amplifier.  Now, the 6T8 only works the detector, and the added 6AU6 works the AF amp.  There were no apparent clues as to why they did this, but it works well and I will leave it as is.

After changing capacitors, the set played, but poorly.  I then found many resistors that were tired and needed replacing.

Here's some screen shots.  My picture taking skills aren't the greatest.  Watching television on this circle screen is very unique.  Many sets in the early years used picture tubes such as this.  Television has certainly come a long way since 1950.
